Shopify Store Audit Checklist

A practical walkthrough for reviewing your own store the way I review a client store, section by section.

Most store owners look at their homepage and judge the whole store by it. An audit works differently: you follow the path a real shopper takes and note every point where they would hesitate. Work through the checklist below with your own store open on a phone first, then on desktop.

1. First impression

  • Within five seconds, is it clear what you sell and who it is for?
  • Is there one obvious primary action, not four competing ones?
  • Does the top of the page load without layout jumping around?
  • Do announcement bars and pop-ups block the first screen on mobile?

2. Navigation and findability

  • Can a shopper reach any product category in two taps?
  • Do menu labels use words customers use, not internal names?
  • Does search return sensible results for your most common product terms?
  • Are collection pages filtered and sorted in a way that helps choice?

3. Product pages

  • Is the main benefit stated above the fold, not buried in a description?
  • Do images show scale, detail and the product in use?
  • Are size, variant and quantity choices easy to tap on a small screen?
  • Are shipping, returns and delivery time answered without leaving the page?
  • Do reviews appear near the buying decision instead of at the very bottom?

4. Trust

  • Is there a real About section, contact route and policy set?
  • Do you show proof that other people have bought and received the product?
  • Are claims specific rather than superlative?
  • Does the checkout look consistent with the rest of the store?

5. Cart and checkout

  • Does adding to cart give clear feedback and an easy next step?
  • Are extra costs shown before the final step instead of surprising the shopper?
  • Is guest checkout available?
  • Can a shopper edit quantity or remove an item without losing their place?

6. Speed and technical basics

  • Do your heaviest pages still feel usable on a mid-range phone?
  • Are hero images sized for the screen instead of full resolution?
  • Are apps you no longer use removed from the theme?
  • Do product and collection pages have unique titles and descriptions?

When you finish, you will usually have a long list. Do not fix everything. Rank the items by how close they sit to the buying decision, then fix the three nearest checkout first. That ordering is where most of the gain lives.
